Introduction

At one point of time or the other, we all may have heard about godaddy.com. This company has been around since 1999. They claim to offer different services such as Domain Names Registration, Web hosting and storage, Security utilities, Design Services, Email and Productivity services, Business and Marketing Solutions.

.com registration – $14.99/yr ($14.99 Renewal)
Domain privacy – $7.99/yr (subject to change) ($9.99 Renewal)
Total – $22.98/yr

Domain name pricing

The price of $14.99/yr is higher than the normal industry price for domain name registration. Godaddy charges $5 more than the standard/normal price. That is like one and half times the standard price.

Their marketing strategy is that they offer the first year pricing as $2.99 and $14.99/yr if you signup for 2+ years at that very moment. Notice that in the screenshot below:

At the time I tried to order a domain with them, they applied a 13% discount to the order, thus lowering my order price to $12.99/yr for the domain name.

GoDaddy appeals as a modern day website. Plenty of whitespace makes it easier to digest the content. Homepage conveys their intended point very well by focusing on what they feel is important. Overall, a good UI.

godaddy.com seems to be the big daddy of all when it comes to charging customers heavily. If the normal value of the Domain Name registration along with the Domain privacy is considered, the annual charge would be $22.98/yr as per their payment structure. So for 10 domains, you would end up paying $229.8/yr, when in fact, it should in an acceptable price range of $100-$110.

The sheer amount of profit that Godaddy makes off of it’s customers is a testimonial to the fact that you see them advertising heavily on the TV and other mediums. Steer clear off godddy.com if you don’t want to get ripped off.
